Meet the Homelab

Time to meet the homelab, so… Let’s do it.

First off, Let’s meet Crater, also nicknamed nCrater short for New Crater, or Crater V2

It is built upon Dell PowerEdge R720 I picked it up on eBay about a month ago for $236.50 (€219.86) shipped.

It came with 2x E5-2670, 32GB ram, and 2x 146GB 3x 300GB SAS drives, not bad for $200, But all of that was ripped out and replaced with 2 x E5-2680 v2, and about 192GB of DDR3 ECC that I picked up for $83.98 (€78.07) on eBay. I also had to pick up a Dell H710 Perc Flashed with HBA bios.

Now on to the storage, Boot 2x 256GB Raid1, and for bulk VM storage it’s 3x1TB SSD Raidz1, a shit mix of drives but it’s what I had on hand 1 Samsung, 2 Teamgroup. Installed on the boot drive is Proxmox VE 7.3.

Dieing pool was a test pool (spelled wrong on Porpoise)

Things I plan to do is get a better HBA the IOPs of that H710 are shit.

Here is a semi-up-to-date photo, This is a production server so, I was rushing to get it back up.

nCrater opened with 120GB of ram.
